Author Marlene Burling provides readers with powerful themes for every day of the year in her book “A Daily Walk with God,” a 365 day Christian devotional. 

The theme for each day includes an inspirational thought from her personal life’s experiences, common and relatable daily occurrences, objects, or Bible stories. 

Readers get to find a relevant verse in each daily short read to think about through the day, along with a prayer centered on that day’s issue. 

“I want readers to know that no matter what they are going through, they are not alone because God is always there. They can rely on Him for peace, comfort, direction, and joy amid heartache,” says Marlene.

Marlene is a widow who currently lives in Batavia, New York. She was married for 51 years. Her husband was a pastor for almost 30 years. They have three married children, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. 

Marlene and her husband attended the Elohim Bible Institute and served the Lord in four different churches at the time. 

After her husband passed away, Marlene was encouraged to get on Facebook. Shortly after that, she was encouraged by several people to write a book, and her daily posts eventually turned into two 365 day devotionals.  

“They played a big part in my healing process. I also began a widow’s ministry after my husband passed, and I developed a widow’s workshop which I have presented in two women’s state conferences and several churches,” Marlene explains.

Marlene has also spoken at several ladies’ banquets. 

“The Lord continues to teach and show me so many things, and my heart’s desire is to simply pass this on to others and be an encouragement even when they are living through difficult times,” says Marlene.

In her book review, author Barbara Bamberger Scott praised Marlene for “offering her wisdom in the form of daily discourses.”

“The book is formatted as an easily readable journal. Marlene writes on a wide variety of subjects and includes both devout reflections and some enjoyable, positive humor. She shows her writing mastery in the creation of marvelous metaphors,” says Barbara.

Barbara commended Marlene for creating a new direction in life out of the sorrows of widowhood, using her talents as a writer and her thoughtfulness as a Christian to help other women, in particular, but “presenting a heartfelt collection that could be of use to anyone sincerely dedicated to following the Christian path.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Donald A. Shirk, a senior pastor at the Grace Baptist Church in Batavia, lauded the book for bringing “practical food for the soul that will spiritually sustain and equip readers, so their first take on the decisions of their day would honor God.”

Dr. Shirk said Marlene is a student of what an authentic walk with God should look like.
